Used wheel loader

Specific features of wheel loaders

Wheel loaders are centrally articulated and equipped with a parallel-arm or beam stretcher to lift and load materials with a loader bucket or high-dump bucket. With this stretcher, the bucket can move vertically and pivot around the load-bearing axle. The wheel loader is best suited to loading large-volume dump trailers, or feeding hoppers in cement works, for example.

Equipped with very large tires (relative to their size), wheel loaders can move over all types of sufficiently hard ground (for non-cohesive soils, tracked loaders are recommended). A wheel loader can also be used to rework rock at the quarry face, enabling the loading of rigid or articulated dumpers. Equipped with foam-filled tires and a claw bucket, it can be used to handle sharp ferrous waste, for example.

Buckets can vary in volume (measured in liters) and size, from 0.5 m3 to 31 m3, from 1800 mm to over 7000 mm. With diesel engines of up to 1500 hp and operating weights of up to 200 tonnes, the largest loaders, like their smaller cousins, are equipped with 4-wheel drive.

Front and rear axles are equipped with submerged brakes. Powershift transmissions enable the loader to move quickly with its load, making bulk transport one of the loader's functions.

The wheel loader: a must-have

An essential piece of equipment in the public works sector, some manufacturers have specialized in designing compact articulated or rigid wheel loaders with bucket capacities ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 m3.

Particularly well suited to building construction and masonry activities, these loaders are the flagship products of equipment rental companies.

There are also narrower, lower loaders designed to work inside mines. Above all, this is a machine that excels in public works and quarry loading.
